The Story Behind Resinbliss

I've always had fun making jewelry as a hobby. When I was a child, it started with plastic beads strung onto elastic bracelets. Later, I moved on to working with gemstones fastened onto chains and wires. When my husband bought his 3D printer, I began experimenting with creating design files and printing pendants and earrings in plastic.

But something was missing. Perhaps it was the meaning behind the pieces that I would later find in my preserved resin jewellery.

It was towards the beginning of 2021 that I started experimenting with resin. These were COVID times, and both my husband and I were looking to expand our hobbies. He started working with epoxy resin, incorporating it into beautiful tables and handcrafted wood and resin charcuterie boards. Perhaps this sparked my curiosity, but I also remember seeing UV resin kits at Michaels. They were perfectly suited for jewellery making, so I decided to give them a try.

I started off using eyeshadow for pigment, carefully mixing it into the resin. I played around with colours and shapes, adding embellishments such as glass, beads, stones and glitter. My work was sloppy at times, and I definitely had some spills, but I learned along the way. My BBQ lighter became my best friend as I zapped the bubbles, and I soon gathered a collection of popsicle sticks, toothpicks and tweezers to use as tools.

Then I turned to YouTube. Lo and behold, I came across a DIY video of a girl preserving a dried daisy in a framed resin pendant. It looked so perfect, and I had to try my hand at this technique. I ordered some frames to experiment with, along with dried pressed flowers. They were a messy mishmash of dried flowers. Not my finest work, but I knew this could become something more, something special.

My first floral resin pieces

I've always felt such a connection to nature. There is a certain universal beauty surrounding plants and flowers. They are heaven on earth. The fact that one can simply stare at a flower and be in awe speaks wonders.

I eventually learned how to dry flowers myself. I would pick flowers and pretty little weeds on walks. Then we began growing and expanding our own garden.

What I also love is that each flower has its own symbolic meaning. They are spiritual and perfect for gifting. There is nothing like the feeling of wearing a piece of nature as art.
